Jeanette Cooper fell in love with writing prior to her teens after learning she could shape the world any way she chose with pencil and paper (and with a computer and word processor). Writing presented a way to explore the universe, to research the unknowns that served to make her writings more realistic, and to enjoy a vast resource of knowledge and learning.

Florida Author Celebrates Publication of Historical Romance Novel

Murder, abduction and mayhem set the prelude to beautiful Edreia's birth in Anglo Saxon England. Then sixteen years later (1066), her life changes forever after the fall of England during the Norman Conquest when the Norman leader, Mikkel, claims her amongst the spoils of war.

Live Oak, FL July 29, 2006 -- Georgia-born, Florida author, Jeanette Cooper, celebrates the publication of her book, Conquered with Love, a historical romance that relates a story of murder, abduction and mayhem, and sets the prelude to beautiful Edreia's birth in Anglo Saxon England. The novel depicts Edreia’s emotional struggle to come to terms with a new way of life after the Norman Conquest of 1066 when her father’s fiefdom is seized by Mikkel, leader of the Norman army, who claims Edreia amongst the spoils of war. Edreia’s ensuing hardships, as she grapples with adjusting to changing times, invite conflict and suspense when her heart is under siege by Mikkel, the man she falls desperately in love with.

Jeanette says that she has always had a love of English history, especially in the days of knights and chivalry. “The violence, conflicts, and passion of the period offer abundant inspiration for any writer. The high drama of such an interesting time in history made me eager to write a love story filled with dramatic human events and emotions, not unlike what lovers have experienced throughout history,” she states.

With a sense of déjà vu, memories of Jeanette’s early life on a farm in Georgia caused her to identify with the historical system of fiefdoms and serfdom in Anglo Saxon England, where tenants worked the fields in return for goods and services. She recalls her father (1910-2002) sharecropping for a landowner and receiving half the earnings from the sale of his harvest. She indicated that her research for Conquered Heart caused her to relive vicariously those hard days of work and sweat by her father and herself with chores aplenty.

“In essence,” she says thoughtfully, “the past never goes away, but returns like the seasons in different raiment to suffuse with the present and plant seeds of tomorrow."

After Jeanette retired from teaching elementary school, she engaged in her love of writing as the best method of keeping an active mind while enjoying an interest she coveted from childhood. She has written fourteen novels and one poetry book and is presently working on a historical trilogy set in Savannah, Georgia.
